Week 17 (23rd-27th February)

Monday 23rd Speaking to Sean about next steps. I'm still working on the current draft of the script, I'd wanted to get it done for today but ran out of time. Need to get my current progress sent to him this afternoon, it won't be a complete draft cos I wasn't quite as far along as I thought I was. I'm getting stressed and overwhelmed by how far behind I am and the scope of the project. Currently looking at the possibility of cutting the living room interior, I'd have to shuffle a bit of the story but it could work (won't change it for this draft yet though); I still think the street set is necessary though I need to show the houses (make miniatures and full scale bases).  I need to start prototyping materials I want to use for the robots and the Inventor, practiucal exploration needs to happen ASAP. And maybe making another quick armature for me to use for test animations to get used to the rig and animating a human, make my way through the Richard Williams ...

Week 16 (16th-20th February) - MOVE Summit

Image
Monday 16th  Last year at MOVE Summit I had the idea of doing little stop motion/traditional animation on post-it notes and just photograph them in locations around the convention. But I didn't have time. I REALLY want to do that this year, but I can't decide whether to do my own original character (could be part of a bigger series) or with H3LPR (practice drawing him and gain publicity). If people see me doing this it could also spark opportunity to network or at least make me memorable I managed to book four 1:1 reviews for the week. Wish I had more of a stop motion portfolio but that's my own fault for not being more organised. I need to get over the fear of starting projects so that I actually have stuff to show people Tuesday 17th Managed to make it to the WildChild meeting after all, but couldn't stay for the debrief. Think they liked the direction our animatic was going in. My main task this week is to start exploring matte painting (I want to do a few small test...

Week 15 (9th-13th February)

Monday 9th More concepts. Mostly exploring the H3LPR 2.0 concept, where H3LPR is just in different iterations representing the different iterations of AI Started exploring a bit of environment design as well with the underground workshop and the furnace power source. I want dramatic and dangerous red lighting with this furnace Interesting ideas from feedback to explore. Susan suggested making The Inventor claymation because he's the only organic thing there, whereas everything else is crafted/scultped. I do really like implementing the animation medium AS a storytelling method, that's why I'm doing stop motion in the first place, so I'm VERY tempted to explore this! I know from previous experience that I struggled to not smush elements like clothes, so I might see about having only his head and hands be clay and the rest of his clothes still be textiles? I need to do a test comparing sculpted facial animation vs claymation facial animation. Perhaps it would be good to d...

Week 14 (2nd - 6th February)

Monday 2nd February Spoke to the External Examiner about the course this morning. And then spent the rest of the day in studio testing colour palettes for the ident following the blue and orange theme. I know Maggie said she wanted it to me midday but I though it was worth exploring different times of day too because that palette lends itself well to sunsets and night - though I do think the daytime one works the best. Chalk pastel is very fun for concept; note for future use, use the smoother side for smoother blending Tuesday 3rd February  Colour palettes were well received by the team. Next up is to try and make a compromise mix of daytime but still with a little bit of that orange sunset, using Bysiak's composition. Think the next ones will be digital since it'll only be minor variations. I also need to experiment with matte painting over Alex's backgrounds to mimic the Slime Rancher style references. We also got our full beatboards done that morning Thursday 5th Febru...
