Week 15 (9th-13th February)
Monday 9th
More concepts. Mostly exploring the H3LPR 2.0 concept, where H3LPR is just in different iterations representing the different iterations of AI
Started exploring a bit of environment design as well with the underground workshop and the furnace power source. I want dramatic and dangerous red lighting with this furnace
Interesting ideas from feedback to explore. Susan suggested making The Inventor claymation because he's the only organic thing there, whereas everything else is crafted/scultped. I do really like implementing the animation medium AS a storytelling method, that's why I'm doing stop motion in the first place, so I'm VERY tempted to explore this! I know from previous experience that I struggled to not smush elements like clothes, so I might see about having only his head and hands be clay and the rest of his clothes still be textiles? I need to do a test comparing sculpted facial animation vs claymation facial animation. Perhaps it would be good to do before MOVE Summit
Tuesday 10th
Discussing catch of the day tasks. Need to get storyboards done asap, I was assigned scene 3 (where Mack the fisherman wakes up and notices the fishing rod had caught something, then gets dragged off by the fish). We're aiming to get these done for Friday so Maggie can edit them together over the weekend for next Tuesday
Wednesday 11th
Thinking if I can do anything before move summit, the schedule came out and there’s a lot of stop motion connections I could make so it would be good to get more experiments done before then or more concepts
Thursday 12th
Rigging is awful I hate it. It was going ok until it wasn't. I was struggling with the controls and technical aspect of it and keeping up with the tutorials. Phil said next week we'll be going over plugins so hopefully that will be easier to do
Maya is dying because the my Tails model had OVER A MILLION FACES and is currently 97MB…this is why I’m doing retopology. Made a bit more progress today, I managed to get his body done but didn't have a lot of time in the 3D Lab. I don't mind retopology, for me the tricky part is figuring out where pieces match up evenly but overall a lot more relaxing than rigging
Managed to book on to the paper animation workshop at MOVE Summit which I'm very excited about
Friday 13th
Made a start on storyboards for our section. Was struggling to find a software, procreate and procreate dreams both have significant drawbacks so in the end I used TVPaint. Injured my shoulder so didn't do a lot of work today, had to miss life drawing
We organised a small class trip to see Iron Lung in Cineworld on Friday, it was really nice to do something as a class again that isn't uni work. We'd like to do more game or movie nights again it's a good break from things
Got my scene complete on Saturday, came out to 6 seconds. It took about 10 hours which is really slow but there was also a lot of motions to draw and time. I managed to make myself laugh with it though, so I win
