Week 7 (3rd-7th November)
Monday 3rd November
I see Yujia has put out an invite to the whole school to join an AI in Creativity guest lecture. I’m partially tempted to go for research (and to absolutely grill the guest speaker again) but then that gives the class engagement. I did end up getting into a few discussions with Yujia last year during my dissertation classes, she’s very aware of my anti-Ai stance
Tried to get a little work done but got distracted
Tuesday 4th November
Sean really likes my little coffin stop motion test. It's practical research, building confidence and an understanding of the workflow and what works. The plan is to continue testing stop motion; fabrication, movement, software etc, little experiments. Keep using the free software for now, and will hopefully be getting one of the iMacs with Dragonframe
Sean thinks he might be able to find me a solo filming space in Semester 3 when it's only the Masters students left in the school; in the meantime for Semester 2 I will likely be setting up in that kitchen space in the studio (provided no one walks in those doors). Speak to Jenny about available facilities, as I preferably need a lockable space with partition light-blocking curtains. The size of the filming space with determine the size of the sets
Need to see if DEL has any of the Canon r series of cameras, although Dragonframe does have an expanded list of other compatible cameras (perhaps a 5D would work); need to speak to them about long term equipment loans. I need to come up with a device list of all the equipment I will need and speak to Sara in DEL to see what can be sourced
I managed to get my contextual review and abstract submitted tonight so I can finally relax a little
Wednesday 5th November
Having a few thoughts about the poster task now. It would be nice to have some form of concept art on there (since I will have no film stills) but we'll see what happens. Need to figure out what to write. Can I use any graphs from the report analysis, do I need to do more general contextual research into GenAI
Finally had my first meeting with my new study support advisor Martin, and being a fine arts graduate himself he's been helping me find some methods to be productive; pomodoro study method, having the dedicated workspace like the studio/library, making a to-do priority list with scheduled times, and writing down any thoughts that pop into my head for later so I don't get distracted. I really need to try doing a five minute doodle a day (no matter how bad it is) to really get into the habit of regular drawing and stop being scared of perfectionism
Thursday 6th November
Learning Retopology and UV Unwrapping in 3D class this morning. It was actually quite satisfying once I got my head around it! If I only want to model for 3D printing and not for digital rendering or rigging do I still need to do UV Unwraps?
Friday 7th November
Finally going back to the script. I need to get it written asap but that means I have to do a lot of research into scriptwriting and GenAI first. I'm just working on a plot outline at least, I don't need a fully written out script until the plot outline is more finalised
