Week 4 (13th-17th October)
Tuesday 14th October
Didn't manage to get anything done the past few days, was at my two jobs. Mental health day, was struggling and needed a break.
I might have to call it on the MAKE Fund application, realistically I won't be able to get all of my pre-production complete in only a few weeks. Ah well, maybe another opportunity will come along
Wednesday 15th October
I've decided to focus on the anti-AI theme as my research proposal rather than the idea of integrating a 2D workflow. The hybrid 2D workflow is a very interesting research direction that I will plan to explore in future, but I feel it's too ambitious and too far removed from what I originally wanted to do with my film which was to express my frustrations with the rise of AI.
I have also decided to focus my R&D in Practice module research on AI instead of stop motion, as I am REALLY struggling to find any academic articles on stop motion and it ties directly into the themes of the film. If I were to display this poster at degree show with my film, I would rather it give the necessary background context to AI than the premise of stop motion animation. Though I still want to find a way to include both. But for the sake of the contextual review I will focus on finding an AI article as there are more of them to find
Thursday 16th October
3D class, learning how to take a 3D model from Maya to ZBrush. This was my first time using ZBrush. I had a lot of fun messing about; modelled a bad character head but it wasn't a serious attempt it was just me figuring out how basic sculpting controls work. I'm not good yet, but I wouldn't be against trying it for my character models for replacement modelsI need to find a character turnaround to model in ZBrush next week. I'm thinking Miles "Tails" Prower from the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, as he's one of my favourite characters and the Sonic characters are built of fairly simple shapes. I want to make this as simple but enjoyable for myself as I can. I have the options between his classic, modern (standard) or detective models. Currently leaning toward starting off with the modern design, and potentially adding the detective outfit after if I have time (after all it's just a hat and cape that sits on top of his model rather than interacting, and this design doesn't actually have a 3D model yet). I'm very excited for next week's class
Friday 17th October
Life drawing went well. Tried some cheap water-soluable oil pastels and they were pretty decent for the price. Previously I'd been using a mostly analogous colour palette for values so this time I decided to actually try and blend realistic skin tones and I think it went well, practicing my observation of colour theory (such as the cooler undertones in the skin and lighting).
Working on stuff over the weekend. Introduced to Milanote. Working out plot in my head, have to get it on paper now
Updated my online portfolio again. Found a few more volunteer concept roles but I really shouldn't apply because I'm busy enough with various projects and work
